Beth Chin is a Chicago native, multi-disciplinary artist, electronic composer, and author of Being Mixed – A Visual Guide on Mixed Identity.
Chin has over 10 years of professional experience in large-scale public artworks and nearly 20 years in graphic design. She has completed public artworks on polytab (Cook County Health, Papa John's), graphically (DePaul University's NCAA Big East Women's Basketball Court, Westfield Old Orchard, OSF Healthcare, Children's Health), and has also developed works for event and stage design at various locations and festivals throughout Germany (Waagenbau, Habitat Festival, Flamingo House, and Fusion Festival). Her works have been featured on CBS News, Fox32 Chicago, Windy City Live, The RedEye, and DNA Info.
She is also the former founder and curator for international multiracial platform, Re-Mixed. Re-Mixed was featured on a series of multiracial media outlets, including Mixed Life Media, Mixed Present, Mixed in America, Blended Future Project, Nasiona, and Midwest Mixed. Re-Mixed also collaborated with Loving Day, Multiracial Americans of Southern California, Mixed Asian Media, and numerous sponsors from the multiracial community.
Beth's artworks and compositions share a commonality in improvisation, and can change depending on the context the work is seen or heard. Rooted as an improvisational pianist and utilizing water as a pivotal part of her painting process, she balances abstracted fluidity with form and theory. Emotional and reflective, the work evokes dreams, the subconscious, and connection to the ancestral collective unconscious.
